Meet the founders
Founders Carlos Abadía Suanzes-Carpegna, Nacho Bautista, and Pablo García Mora meet in the late 90s at ETSAM (Madrid). The starting point of Cartonlab and a way of working that continues to this day.

Together with Ernesto Sierra, we found Moho Arquitectos in Murcia. The beginning of a multidisciplinary practice spanning architecture, urban planning, product design, exhibitions, and publications.
Cartonlab is born
We found Cartonlab within the DA (Artistic District) program as an experimental initiative exploring cardboard and its possibilities in design and ephemeral architecture. Picture: David Frutos.

Preguntas frecuentesFAQs

How do you work? I have a project for you.

Depending on what you need, we handle everything: concept development, structural design, production, and installation. Please reach us here for more info.

How long does a project take?

If you’re on a tight timeline, we recommend choosing products from our online shop and customizing them with your graphics. Delivery in that case is  3 weeks. Every project is made to order (no inventory, no waste, optimized for your needs) . Custom projects take longer, depending on design, production, shipping, and installation complexity. Some can span several months.

Can I change the dimensions of your products?

Our designs are optimized for efficiency in materials, production, and shipping, so standard format changes aren’t available. For large or special orders, custom adaptations may be possible — these require a redesign and carry an additional cost. Tell us about your project at info@cartonlab.com and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Can your products be used outdoors?

We don’t recommend it. Our designs are intended primarily for indoor use. Like any material, cardboard has its conditions of use: prolonged exposure to sun, humidity, rain, or wind can affect its performance.

What if it gets wet or there’s a fire risk?

We can work with fire-retardant cardboard and apply specific treatments depending on project requirements. We adapt to the technical specs of each space.

What type of cardboard do you use?

We select the right type of cardboard for each project based on its use and demands: corrugated, inverted corrugated, honeycomb,  or solid board. Each product’s spec sheet lists the cardboard type used. All our materials are FSC-certified, guaranteeing responsible sourcing.
